Summary

Kolik et al. 2019 (Bull Exp Biol Med) report that in outbred rats receiving 30 weeks of chronic ethanol exposure, 7 days of Selank IP produced a cognitive-stimulating effect in non-ethanol rats and prevented ethanol-withdrawal-induced memory disturbance in the object-recognition test, and prevented an ethanol-induced increase in hippocampal + frontal-cortex BDNF.

Limitations

Rat model only; per-arm sample size implied but not stated in the abstract (uncertainty, not a defect); short (7-day) Selank dosing window; single behavioural readout; single dose (0.3 mg/kg) with no dose-response; blinding of observers not described (uncertainty).
