Summary
Haidar et al. 2020 (Diabetes Care) randomised crossover artificial-pancreas trial (NCT02814123) showing that a rapid-insulin-and-pramlintide artificial pancreas increased time-in-range from 74% to 84% vs rapid-insulin-alone (p=0.0014), driven by improved daytime control (63%→78%, p=0.0004), while the regular-insulin-and-pramlintide system did not change time-in-range and had ~2× the hypoglycaemic-event rate; gastrointestinal symptoms were more common on both pramlintide arms.
Limitations
Small inpatient-only trial (n not stated in abstract); short 24-h arm exposure; single-centre; two novel dosing algorithms, not directly translatable to community use; higher hypo-event rate on the regular-insulin variant.
