Summary

Zlokovic et al. 1989 demonstrate a high-affinity saturable transport mechanism for DSIP across the blood–brain barrier of the perfused guinea-pig brain: cold DSIP 7 μM reduces [125I]-DSIP Kin to mannitol-like values; L-tryptophan (DSIP's N-terminal residue) inhibits Kin at physiological concentrations; Arg8-vasopressin inhibits only at 0.2 mM.

Limitations

Ex-vivo perfused-brain preparation only; single species (guinea pig); no in-vivo brain-penetration confirmation; older methodology; small dataset described in abstract.
