Summary

Nakamura et al. 1988 report that ICV/intracisternal DSIP produces a dose-dependent antinociceptive effect in mice and rats in tail-pinch and hot-plate tests, that intrathecal DSIP is inactive, that the effect is blocked by naloxone, and that DSIP has no antinociceptive effect in morphine-tolerant mice — consistent with a supraspinal opioid-mediated mechanism.

Limitations

Rodent model only; older methodology (1988); no per-arm sample sizes in abstract; blinding not described; behavioural nociception readouts subject to observer bias.
